School Threat and Safety Training

Dear Parents and Guardians

We prioritize the safety and security of our students and staff at USD 353. To enhance our preparedness for emergency situations, we will be conducting active shooter training for students in the coming weeks.

This training is part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring that everyone knows how to respond effectively in the unlikely event of an emergency. If you would like to opt your student out of this training please contact your school’s office.

Training Overview

The training will cover

Understanding the Threat: Recognizing the signs and responding appropriately. Safety Procedures: Following the Run, Hide, Fight protocol

Communication and Evacuation: Familiarizing with school emergency procedures and 

exits

Training Schedule 

We will use age-appropriate materials and exercises to ensure that all students understand the content without causing undue anxiety or fear

Parental Involvement 

We understand that the topic of active shooter training can be unsettling. Therefore, we encourage you to discuss the importance of these measures with your children

Ongoing Support 

After the training, we will provide access to counselors and support staff for any students who may need assistance in processing the information or managing their emotions
