Our Crusader Students and Student-Athletes are into HEAVY "MEDAL"!

This past week or so at WHS, the atmosphere has been quite metallic!

On a recent trip to Coffeyville, four of WHS debaters, under the tutelage of Kurt Sherry, returned with medals for their performances in SE Kansas. Congratulations to Philip Starnes, Riley Anderson, each brought home "THE GOLD", going 5-0 in debate action. Their younger counterparts, Claire Norris and Rachel Ewing fared well, too, finishing 4th and medaling, in the novice division! Congratulations!

At the State 4A Girls Tennis tournament in Winfield this past weekend, Jensen Lynnes, Lyric Cornejo, Ashlyn Gerten, Kadynce Aufdengarten, and Kami Reichenberger, returned home with the STATE 4A Runners-Up plaque after each medaled in their respective events. (Out of 21 teams) In doubles, Lynnes and Cornejo finished in 4th, Gerten and Aufdengarten in 8th. In singles, Reichenberger finished 8th as well. Coached by Brian Aufdengarten and Daphne Adams, tennis aficionados, the WHS Tennis program has probably created a medal shortage in our country over the years, as they continue to pile up for the Wellington squads, year after year.  All "5" Lady Crusaders are underclassmen - they will be back in 2022!

Last, and certainly not least, WHS Junior Kasiah Richmond, in very windy conditions, medaled at the 4A State Girls Golf Tournament earlier this week in Salina. Placing 19th (tie), Kasiah brought home a medal after her 2nd consecutive appearance at the State 4A level. Coached by James Ginter and Vanessa Sawyer, doing well at State Golf isn't a new thing. Last year, Lady Crusader Payton Ginter brought home the STATE 4A CHAMPIONSHIP! Payton was on hand in Salina this week, to encourage and cheer on her former teammate Kasiah.

All of us in Wellington applaud the above students and coaches and the winning attitude they bring to our community. Congratulations, you couldn't make us any more proud!
