Wearing masks and spread out on both sides of the WHS main gym, the Crusaders, rocked the building with the superb assistance from the Cheerleaders, Crimson Dancers, Band, Flag Squad, and the Master of Ceremonies himself, Mr. Luke Smith, A.D. for the district. The Fall Sports participants were introduced to the students, staff and visitors. Lots of cheering, dancing, music - it was a great way to prepare for the action packed weekend ahead..

The Varsity Lady Crusaders opened their season at Pratt HS Saturday morning. When it was all said and done, Wellington placed 2nd in a field of 10! Both the #1 Doubles Jensen Lynnes & Lyric Cornejo (5-0) and #2 Doubles Ashlyn Gerten & Kadynce Aufdengarten (4-0) shined. #2 Singles Jordyn Brown made it all the way to the championship and #1 Singles Addie Hinshaw, only a freshman, had some competitive matches against decent competition. A nice start for Coach Aufdengarten and his varsity girls. CONGRATULATIONS to ALL!

What a beautiful morning at Hargis Creek Watershed, the HOME of the WHS/WMS Cross Country squad and their head coach, Jaedyn Showman. 250 middle schoolers and 184 high schoolers crossed the finish line in their respective 1M, 1 1/2M, 2M, and 5K races. All of the WHS runners ran JV on Saturday due to minimal practice time 2 weeks ago due to the district covid-related shutdown. Kudos to all, especially the JV Boys participants, who secured 7 of the top 10 medals, out of a field of 49. WHS Juniors Ryan Bacon and Hunter Lough finished 1st and 2nd respectively.

Saturday evening was the season opener for the Varsity Football team who hosted Wichita Collegiate, week 2 of their season. The Spartans downed Mulvane last weekend 28-14. It was a mixed bag for the Crusaders, in the 35-13 loss. First games of the season can be that way. There were moments of good execution and outcome, but also moments of misfortune as well, a lot of that, the kind teams can experience early on. It won't get any easier this Friday, the IRONDUKES will be hosting (2-0) Andale. Kickoff is slated for 7PM. Saturday was of course the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and the World Trade Center attacks. "First Responders" were admitted FREE and also honored in a pre-game, on the field ceremony. We thank them sincerely for their 24/7 service to our fine community and surrounding area.
