As always our main goal this year is to do as much as possible while keeping the safety of our students as the number one priority. That being said, our winter homecoming week will look a little different this year. Unfortunately, due to health guidelines we will not be able to have the traditional WHS homecoming dance after the basketball game. However, we are still planning some fun activities for our students. Here is a list of activities that we will be having for the week:
Spirit Week: We will still have our theme days and have students dressing up to celebrate each day. Pictures can be taken, but mask need to be worn and social distancing should be maintained
Theme: 2020-21 a Netflix Original
Monday: Dress as your Favorite Cartoon
Tuesday: Stranger Things: Dress in your favorite decade attire
Wednesday: Gossip Girl: Dress in comfy clothes day (PJ Day)
Thursday: Parks and Recreation vs The Office: Dress Outdoorsy vs Office attire
Friday: Friday Night Lights: Red out, Crusader colors
WHS Door Decorating: CruCon classes will decorate their teachers door to match the theme of the week by picking a PG 13 or rated 14 Netflix show for their door theme.
Friday Duke Pep Rally: We will still have the Friday Duke Pep rally for the candidates at 2:30 pm. This event will be at the WHS main gym. Due to capacity restriction we will only allow our band, cheer, dancers, and candidates in the gym. Family members of the candidates will be allowed to attend this event, but otherwise it will be closed to the public and other students of WHS. This event will be live-streamed on the Wellington High School NFHS network: https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/wellington-high-school-wellington-ks
Basketball Game: Our basketball games will be vs El Dorado on Friday, Feb. 5th. C games at 4:15, JV boys at 5:45, V girls at 6, V boys and JV girls at 7:30 We will crown the 2020 Duke between the V girls and boys games approx 7:15. We will still have to follow the capacity restrictions, so you will need to be signed up on the pass list to get into the gym. WHS basketball, band, cheer, and dance teams will get 4 fans per person. The Duke candidates, and child escorts will also get 4 fans per person, and the visiting team will get 2 fans per person. This will put us at capacity for this event and we will not have any extra spots to give out. Mask and social distancing will be required. Families may sit together as household units, but should be 6 feet from others. Masks should be worn at ALL times in the school. This event will be live-streamed on the Wellington High School NFHS network: https://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/wellington-high-school-wellington-ks
As always, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but appreciate your help and cooperation in making this event a success.
Thank you and Go Big Red,
Luke Smith
