Outstanding District Report from LEXIA

A total of 517 students in grades K–5 from Wellington District have been using Lexia Reading Core5® (Core5) since August 2015. This report limits the sample to the 447 students who have at least eight weeks of use and includes all usage and progress up until early April 2016. For new students, Core5’s Auto Placement determined the appropriate start level in the program. Students who used Core5 during the 2014-2015 school year continued where they left off in Spring 2015.

USD 353 NAMES NEW SUPERINTENDENT

The USD 353 Board of Education has announced the selection of Dr. Mark Whitener as the new superintendent. Whitener will begin leadership with USD 353 Wellington on July 1, 2016, after the retirement of current superintendent, Rick Weiss, at the end of the 2015-16 school year.

Elementary Students Attend Symphony In Wichita!

WICHITA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRASome Wellington 3rd and 4th graders had a big music-oriented day Thursday, attending the Wichita Symphony Concert in Wichita with their music instructors Pamela Thompson and Linda Ballard. The special "daytime" performance for students entitled, "The Composer Is Dead" was the one hour family concert on slate:

K-5 Gifted Program Builds Pirate Ship - Arrrgghhh!

NEW WMS GYMThe elementary students enrolled in the gifted program in USD 353, celebrated International Talk Like a Pirate Day (September 19) in grand fashion. Since ITLPD fell on a Saturday, they had a pirate-themed celebration on Tuesday, September 22.

STANDING ROOM ONLY @ VETERANS DAY PROGRAM - NOV 2015

A packed house at WHS Wednesday paid tribute to Veterans across the timeline of service. 5th graders from across the district, middle schoolers and the WHS Madrigals sang songs of honor, the WHS Band chimed in with numerous numbers while the entire student body at WHS took part in this annual program. Today's guest speaker was Doug Smith, a Vietnam War Veteran who served approx. 8 years in the service of his country as an aviator. Stories of honor and bravery were shared, pride and patriotism filled the air.
